The Mother Tucker will be featured today on the popular show, The Doctors

attention all new moms who have been asking if the Belly Bandit's Mother Tucker really works. Don't miss TV Show " The Doctors " today. They are having a segment on belly fat.

Here's a synopsis of the show's segment
   Belly Fat
" Amy, 29, gained 30 pounds during her pregnancy, and she hasn't been able to shed the weight in the 11 months since giving birth. She asks The Doctors for a quick and easy way to lose her post-pregnancy belly.

"That's a huge issue for women after pregnancy, losing the baby weight," OB/GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson says. "Basically, exercise and diet are the only real ways to get the fat off."

To help slim her figure, Amy tries the Mother Tucker compression tank top, which is designed to smooth and shape the midsection, allowing a new mother to maintain a sleek silhouette while carrying extra pounds.
The tank provides support in three zones: the upper, which supports the breasts; the center, which helps flatten the belly; and the anti-roll bottom, which helps smooth "muffin tops," or extra belly fat.

"This is great for a woman while she's trying to the lose weight, when she's trying to look good in her clothes," Dr. Lisa says. "This is just going to compress, it's not going to make you lose weight. When you take it off, everything's going to come back out."

Amy says that she is happy with the results. "I like that it smoothes the sides, and you can wear it under any kind of outfit, and while you are going to the gym, trying to lose the weight," she says. "

Bring 1 1/2 cups water to boil. Dissolve the cornstarch in the remaining 1/2 cup of water. Gradually add the cornstarch paste to the boiling water, stirring well, and cook 30 seconds. Remove from heat and when cool, add food coloring of your choice. (The mixture thickens even more as it cools.)

your furniture can make you sick

If you are one of our long time blog readers, you know that we go on and on about the dangers of formaldehyde, a volatile organic compound found in a great number of everyday things ranging from furniture to clothing to cosmetics. Formaldehyde is classified as a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization.

Here's a bit of good news relating to furniture (we must still fight the battle to get formaldehyde regulations for the garment and cosmetic industries):  a bill signed late last year would reduce indoor emissions of formaldehyde, as used in adhesives found in domestic and imported composite wood products. The standard for formaldehyde proposed in the bill would apply to particleboard, plywood and medium-density fiberboard, all commonly used materials in household furniture. Formaldehyde-based adhesives have been a component of composite wood products for decades and are considered cost-effective by manufacturers.

The Wall Street Journal reported on its Kicking Formaldehyde Out of Bed article that formaldehyde vaporizes and turns into gas at room temperature. Pressed-wood products made with formaldehyde can off-gas, or release gas into the air. Off-gassing has become more of a concern because some energy-efficient homes may provide less ventilation. In homes with less ventilation, consumers could be breathing in more concentrated amounts of toxic substances.

"Currently, there is no federal standard for formaldehyde emissions in most homes. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has set limits on formaldehyde in plywood and particleboard, but they apply specifically to materials used to build prefabricated and mobile homes. Under the proposed legislation, composite wood products sold in the U.S. would have to meet formaldehyde-emission standards of about 0.09 parts per million by January 2012, matching standards recently adopted by California."

Furniture manufacturers are already expecting furniture prices to go up due to the proposed bill. Manufacturers will be forced to use more expensive adhesives (free of the dangerous chemicals) in the making of their goods . So let's all expect to pay more for our furniture. I'll gladly pay more, as long as I know that my furniture is not hurting my health.

The Kicking Formaldehyde Out of Bed article featured Ecotots:
The manufacturer of Ecotots beds (like the one above) says they are made without formaldehyde.

Kourtney Kardashian Shows off Belly Bandit Results

Celeb new mom Kourtney Kardashian was just at the W South Beach in Miami to debut and sign her limited edition Belly Bandit ($65.95). Kourney looked fantastic and she credits the belly wrap with helping her quickly get back into bikini shape.

"My doctor told me not to workout at all until 6 weeks after giving birth so the belly bandit definitely gave me a jump-start on my weight loss. I wore it [belly bandit] consistently for 45 days. I brought it with me to the hospital and put it on right away. It even helps me with my posture. It is truly the miracle accessory I cannot live without!" - Kourtney Kardashian

Let's join Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution

Britain's famous chef, Jamie Oliver has made a new series for American TV about food – how families eat, what kids get at school and why, like the UK, the diet of processed food and snacks is causing so many health and obesity problems. The series was filmed in Huntington, West Virginia.
Jamie's challenge was to see if he can get a whole community cooking again. He worked with the school lunch ladies and local families to get everyone back in the kitchen and making tasty meals with fresh ingredients – no packets, no cheating. He's started a Food Revolution: to get people all over America to reconnect with their food and change the way they eat.

Message from Jamie

I believe that every child in America has the right to fresh, nutritious school meals, and that every family deserves real, honest, wholesome food. Too many people are being affected by what they eat. It's time for a national revolution. America needs to stand up for better food!

You live in an amazing country full of inspirational people and you have the power to change things. With your help, we can get better food into homes, schools and communities all over America and give your kids a better future. Sign the petition to save America's cooking skills and improve school food. It could be the most important thing you ever do for your family. America's health needs you now!

The American Food Revolution needs to start now! If you care about your country and the health of its children please help us make a difference. We need your support to get people back in touch with food and keep cooking skills alive before it's too late. We want to make sure every kid gets good, fresh food at school. It's proven that real food promotes more effective learning. If you want better health for your kids the junk food must go. I need to be able to show The President and industry how many of you out there really care about this issue so please don't wait, sign up today. It will only take 30 seconds.

America's health needs you!

Thank you. Please forward this to your friends, family, classmates, teachers, colleagues and anyone else who you think cares as time is short.

Wearable Art for Babies and Toddlers!

Virginia Artist Miriam A. Kilmer
Miriam Kilmer has been surrounded by the arts since early childhood. Her parents founded Green Hedges Elementary School (still flourishing in Vienna, VA) in order to give their ten children a superior education with emphasis on the arts. Her ancestors include poets Joyce and Aline Kilmer and American Impressionist Frederick C. Frieseke. (Miriam's experience in the challenges of preserving Frieseke's works on paper has encouraged her to use archival materials in her own artwork.) Enriched by this background, Miriam and all of her siblings have continued to develop their artistic talents throughout their lives.

Miriam earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking at UNC-G, and her Masters in Theology rom De Sales School of Theology. She has led art workshops with children and adults, worked as a portrait studio photographer, and operated her own fine arts business since 1979.

Over the years Miriam has developed a variety of distinctive styles, influenced by the medium, subject matter, and purpose of the artwork, as well as her widening outlook and diverse environments. She now specializes in pastel, photography, computer graphics, and web design. Her unifying theme is love for the Source of creation and all that flows from that Source, as evidenced by her focus on nature, portraits, and spiritual subjects.

Miriam has exhibited her works in numerous juried and solo shows. Her photographs have been published in magazines, newsletters, and books, most notably the Shapenotes issue of Smithsonian in The Classroom. Her artwork is included in private collections in Canada and France as well as the United States.

The Shenandoah Valley is a familiar place to Miriam. From early childhood, the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley were among her favorite places to visit. Since the early eighties, she has made numerous visits to the area, including her yearly week on Bryce Mountain, taking thousands of photographs of local wildlife and farm animals.

Artist's Statement

I am inspired primarily by my reverence for nature. My pictures come from many places, such as my native Virginia and other states I have visited, notably the southwest landscapes of Arizona and New Mexico. I love the challenge of photographing animals: birds - especially baby birds and their nests - butterflies, cats, deer, and so on. I am fascinated by the power of the camera to freeze moments which pass so quickly they are easily missed. These include not only living things such as flowers and trees blowing in the wind, but also rocks, cliffs, clouds, and landscapes as they are changed by wind, storms, and shadows in shifting sunlight from sunrises to sunsets and twilight.

Although nature photography is my first love, I also enjoy taking portraits, and happily take commissions for special photographic or graphic projects. When choosing which of my thousands of images to offer as limited edition giclee prints, I look for a spiritual quality, dramatic composition and sumptuous color. Whether you choose to order prints or are simply here to browse, I hope you enjoy the pictures I exhibit.
